Breathtaking new (old) philosophy for website content
Boyd Ramsey, who will open a new consultancy beginning in 2017 has developed a website as a modern promotional tool. A common part of individual websites is a blog or a “news” page. Well, I have successful avoided the temptation to create a blog… the world will have to wait, or not care, if I ate chicken or fish today, what my opinions about the latest human foolishness might be.
But this line of thought brought to mind an article that I had saved* by one of my favorite authors P.J. O’Rourke, I am tempted to “re-post” the article, but there are copyright considerations. But the real reason not to do that is simple…it would not benefit Mr. O’Rourke who went to the trouble to form a coherent thought and express it in an informative, intelligent and amusing manner. I will however, deliver the punchline…just because modern technology makes it possible to express your thoughts, it doesn’t mean you should. Never miss an opportunity to shut up is still a wise dictum.
* “saved” in this context means that I cut the page containing the article out of a magazine that was printed on paper, using a pair of scissors and put the paper in a file cabinet. The original source on the printed copy was Forbes ASAP, February 19, 2001. O’Rourke also explores this idea in his book: “The CEO of the Sofa” – Grove Press, 2001, which can be purchased on Amazon for $3.29…so there you go.
